Pet Dental month is a great way for Rockhill
Vet to inform our clients about the importance of dental
care for you pet.
What factors play a role in the formation
of plaque, tartar and disease?
Age, general health status, diet, chewing
behavior, breed, genetics, tooth alignment, grooming habits,
home care, mouth environment and tooth anatomy.
What veterinary procedures are used
to treat periodontal disease?
Treatment depends upon the severity (grade)
of the problem. In all cases, a pre-surgical exam is conducted
in order to grade your pet's dental health.
A dentistry consists of cleaning and polishing
the teeth. Plaque and tartar build-up will be removed from
the teeth both above and below the gumline using a handheld
and ultrasonic scaler. The teeth are then polished to remove
microscopic scratches that predispose to plaque formation
and tartar build-up. Each tooth and the entire oral cavity
are checked for any disease. With an owner's consent, a
tooth will be extracted only if it can not be saved.
Post dentristry-
Owner commitment to home care is very important.
Daily brushing and regular exams are crucial to prevent
periodontal disease and infection in your pet's mouth.
